Water Baptism:
We Are a Church of New Beginnings.
The old is gone.
The new has come.
At C3 SYD, Baptism means full immersion, being lowered into the water and raised back up, as a picture of Jesus' death and resurrection.
The person who baptises you will be someone you know and trust, like a Connect Group leader or one of our pastors.
What is Water Baptism:
Water Baptism is a public way of declaring your decision to follow Jesus. It's a picture of what Jesus did for us: he died, was buried, and rose again. When we get baptised, that is now our story too. Your old life has gone, your new life has started (Romans 6:1–8; Colossians 2:12, 2 Corinthians 5:17).
Why Get Water Baptised:
1. Jesus did it first
Jesus wasn't baptised because he'd done anything wrong, he did it to set an example for us to follow (Matt. 3:15).
2. Jesus asked us to
Right before he returned to heaven, Jesus told his disciples to baptise people as part of helping them follow him:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
(Matt. 28:18-20)
3. It shows you‘ve decided to follow Jesus
From the very beginning, the first Christians got baptised as a way of publicly following through on their decision to follow Jesus (Acts 2:38, John 3:5).
Who should get water baptised:
We believe baptism should be your own personal decision, not something done on your behalf. Some people were baptised, sprinkled, or confirmed as a baby or child, or in a different church community. If that's you, and you now want to make this decision for yourself as part of our community, we'd encourage you to consider getting baptised again.
At C3 SYD, baptism is for anyone who has decided to follow Jesus. That means recognising you needed a fresh start, genuinely turning away from your old way of life, and choosing a new one built around Jesus. The old is gone, the new has come.
We think baptism is a big moment, so we don't take it lightly, and we don't think you should either. Before you take this step, we want to make sure you understand what it means and why you're doing it.
