Waiting – it won’t kill you!
There are times in life when all you can do is wait. Times that seem uncelebrated, unseen, hidden and even barren.
But these are the times when God will do some of His greatest works in us and for us. Take heart, waiting will develop the richest part of our soul and our character.
It is in the waiting where we will be made more like Him. If anyone knows the power of an uncelebrated season of life, it is Jesus Himself.
I must say, every area in my life recently has been challenged with waiting. I’m learning more and more that waiting is more about our heart’s condition than the outcome we are ‘waiting’ for. I’ve discovered that our heart has an attitude that subsequently exposes the motives behind our actions.
What develops in the time between the seed of a dream being planted in our hearts and seeing that dream bloom and bear fruit, is nothing short of a miracle. We often view the desired outcome as the miracle, but I know now the greatest miracle is enduring and remaining obedient to Him in ‘the waiting’.
‘Walking with God’ is exactly that, a long distance walk – not a sprint.
To last the distance, He must teach us endurance and patience, something my generation is definitely not accustomed to. If we can learn to walk WITH Him, these seasons of waiting on Him become all the more richer.
So what develops in ‘the waiting’?
An indestructible, influential, unshakeable, indisputable love and life for Jesus. A life that will glorify the faithfulness and goodness of God. A life that will treasure and expose the love of a God who can do absolutely anything for those who love and remain obedient to Him.
So don’t give up in the seasons of ‘waiting’ - stay closer than ever before.
Take hold of His word, speak it, write it, shout it – it is the fuel that will keep you going. Rest and believe, knowing He is in control, and pray. Don’t stop praying despite how things ‘look’.
Understand this one thing – although life may not look as though you thought, although you may feel like everything is falling down around you – HE is the rock, the foundation on which you stand, and whether you are enveloped in the light of the mountain top or overwhelmed by the darkness of the valley – He is with you and will work all things for good because you are loved!
“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good” - Romans 8:26-28
