ABOUT SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (SRE)

The C3 Church Scripture in Schools team is a group of people who are most often not trained school teachers but are passionate about bringing the good news of the Bible to children in public schools. Some of these children may otherwise never know that God loves them.

85% of children in our local public schools don’t attend church regularly.  Their scripture class is their church.

Scripture in Schools is officially known as SRE – Special Religious Education – with the NSW Department of Education.  C3 Team members receive initial training from our School Scripture Pastor and ongoing development training via quarterly team meetings.  Individual support is always available and all ongoing development training is available via YouTube.

Here is what some of the team say about Scripture in Schools:

“Seeing kids engaged with the gospel and asking questions about it is the thing I like most about teaching Scripture in Schools!”

Out of the overflow of your spirit, you will find that God is mighty in your classroom!”

“God prepares a place for us to hear from Him (Psalm 23:5) ~ This is the place where we read His Word and listen ~ Yes we are blessed! Likewise, we prepare a place for our guests, because when they arrive at our party we want them to feel so welcome! Our guests are the kids & staff in our SRE classrooms; our party is the #c3scriptureinschools classroom; our team prepares a place for them. This is a place for kids and school staff to hear from God and worship Him, as they listen to the message from the Bible.

Beyond SRE

The Department of Education says “Special Religious Education (SRE) teaches the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion. Under the Education Act 1990, s. 32, government schools allow time for special religious education. It is delivered by authorised representatives of approved religious groups to students who have nominated that religion. Times for classes are negotiated with the school.  If you’d like to know more, you can visit

Over the past few weeks our #scriptureinprimaryschools team has gone back to school for Scripture classes (also known as SRE).  We’ve been excitedly waiting for our schools to prepare a space for us, but in their hearts the team was ready way ahead of time.   We had an all team meeting earlier this year,…

Why SRE?

By C3 Church | October 13, 2017

She wrote each child’s name on the card with the same text, ‘Happy Jesus Birthday Celebrations to You and the very best for the year to come’. Each child wanted her to…
