It is so easy to live life constantly comparing yourself to other people, but this can be the cause of you not reaching your potential.
You can always time find someone else with a bigger house, better car, more talent, more successful – but if you compare them against yourself you can end up feeling sad and depressed. Instead, find inspiration from others and be satisfied that we all have our own journey to run and it is unique, unlike anyone else's.
In Jeremiah 29:11 we read a great promise that reminds us that God has a plan for each of us, and it is a good plan: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.
If you keep looking over the fence at others you will be distracted from your destiny, and will find yourself missing the calling that is on your life. You can't and are not meant to live anyone else'e life other than yours.
A defining moment in my life was on a round the world holiday many years ago when over three separate weekends I attended three thriving churches across America and Europe. I noticed all the church leaders had different personalities and styles, yet God was doing amazing things with their life. This was an important moment for me as I realised I did not have to copy anyone else, there is no set mould that we need to imitate but simply be all that God has called us to be.
So be inspired by those around you – but concentrate on your own race, that way you can become all that you were destined to be.
Be blessed,
Ps Hartley Taylor
