The Holy Spirit is a person. He is the Helper.

So often the Christian church over history has ignored Him or forgotten that He brings the power and anointing to live the Christian life. Once upon a time when you drove a car there was no power assisted steering. It could be hard work, or impossible if you were not strong enough, to steer big cars and trucks. Now all cars and trucks have power assisted steering.

Christians are power assisted by the Holy Spirit. He enhances us, empowers us and anoints us.

The Holy Spirit is essential. He is essential in salvation and birthing us into new life. He is essential for us being able to do the things God asks us to do. God does not ask us to do things that are beyond us. He equips us with gifts by the Holy Spirit and with power by the Holy Spirit.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18

We are transformed by the Holy Spirit. The word transformation here means to be changed as would happen in a metamorphosis. Powerful shifts in state and form. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit there is no room for anything else.

Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.
1 Samuel 10:6

When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will become someone else. When the Spirit came upon King David he became a psalmist. Gideon became a mighty warrior. Peter the fisherman became an apostle and preacher. Saul became Paul.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:7-10

The Holy Spirit is our Helper. When we decide to use what He has given us to serve and meet the needs of others, the Holy Spirit works with us. He comes along side to help and assist and to give us what we need to do the work. When we be who we are called to be, the Holy Spirit can flow. He is like a river flowing through our lives. He is a mighty rushing wind propelling us forward. He is the fire of God giving us passion.

Life has its difficulties. We can be bored, disappointed, hurt, betrayed or confused. We have a choice. We can get God, or we can try to find a fix another way. But the other ways will likely lead to loss of passion for God. The fire will be quenched through life’s circumstances and the spirit of the world, unless we keep being filled with the Holy Spirit.

There are 4 steps to being empowered:

  1. Thirst – We need a drink. We need a fresh infilling of power. We recognise our need.
  2. Come – Jesus says ‘Come to me.’ Know who can and should meet your need.
  3. Drink – Jesus is the Water of Life. Freely given.
  4. Believe – It is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord.
