"One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty."

Proverbs 11:24 (NIV)

Giving is one of the greatest opportunities and privileges you and I have as believers to worship the Lord in a practical way. The kingdom of God is kind of counter-intuitive in terms of the way we live. We would think that withholding would increase what we have, yet the Bible says he who gives will increase what he has and he who withholds will come to poverty. The verse goes on to say “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)  If we can learn the ways of the kingdom of God, which is giving out rather than taking in, we will find that as we give out, even more will come our way. There is a saying – “If God can get it through you, He will get it to you.” As you are a channel of blessing to God and His kingdom, that blessing will return upon you.

We are currently in a season to position ourselves to surrender to God and ask what it is we can do with our lives, and how can we put our hands towards what it is that He is doing in our church. We do this because of our love for the Lord, and we know that He wants us to make an impact on other peoples’ lives.

For younger people who are wondering what they can do, there is so much power in consecration. Consecration is setting yourself apart for God. (Joshua 3:5)  Giving to God, is setting the trajectory of your future. If you are young, don’t wait until you are older to start giving – now is the time! "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) If we understand our time here on Earth is finite, compared to the eternity that God has created us for, it causes us to live in a way that is wise. We can be good stewards of the time and the finances that God has placed into our hands.
